About Me

Andy Rose is a retired educator with more than 42 years in public schools. He taught fifth grade on NYC’s Lower East Side in the 1960s and 1970s, when gangs ruled the streets, and became a School Principal in Norwood, New Jersey in 1980. Four years later, he was promoted to District Superintendent, a position he held for 25 years. During this time, Andy earned a Doctorate at Columbia University. Upon retirement, he studied at the Hudson Valley Writers’ Center in Sleepy Hollow, New York.

Having grown up in Brooklyn, he now writes romantic thrillers set in the world he knows  best — schools — where teachers, not James Bond, face real danger. His novels include  Lily’s Payback and A Lesson to Die For. He is currently working on the next book in the Lily series.

As a lifelong storyteller, he draws inspiration from the world around him—its beauty, complexities, and the myriad of human experiences. In 2014, as part of the National  Endowment for the Arts, Andy was selected to present “Ignite Your Dreams,”a  practical blueprint for those who dream of writing their own book. It covers how to  conceive, plan, write, publish, and market a book. He continues to present “Ignite” at public libraries, senior centers, and community groups.

Andy’s writing journey has led him to explore a range of genres, from thrilling mysteries to heartfelt dramas. Each story is crafted to resonate with readers on a personal level.

Vivian Rose, Andy’s wife, is his muse! Supporting Andy, she serves as a sounding  board for ideas, inspires research pathways, and sparks his imagination. Vivian is a consummate professional in her own right, having served as a Special Ed Supervisor, a Principal of an Alternative High School, and an Adjunct Professor. Together, they nurture a family of three young adult children, their spouses, and seven grandchildren.

Andy and Vivian are inspired by Harriet Beecher Stowe’s quote:

“Never give up, for that is the  time and place the tide will turn.”
